Michelada 04:18
A Saturday in summer We're floating in the pool That we bought at Costco Your well-curated station Of timeless 90's jams Blasting from your phone, yeah You were all I needed And you're all I've got You were all I really needed And we're all each other's got This filter might be broken There's algae wall to wall And the hoses are cracked This thing is a vinyl nightmare Let's drain it and break it down How did it fit in this box? But we still got the full refund, yeah You were all I needed And you're all I've got You were all I really needed And we're all each other's got At the end of it all I want to know that We gave our best shot Even when things got worse At the end of it all I want to know that We had the best time Even when things got worse You were all I needed And you're all I've got You were all I really needed And we're all each other's got

Defog 02:42
Everything was going so well And then we showed up We brought our plans to fix it The world was not enough Clear my head, these distractions They make it hard for me to see They make it hard to listen Wipe the field, entry hazards Can we defog our cloudy minds And get to something better? Everything is going to hell Now that we've messed up We need some plans to fix this Old ways are not enough When I walk outside It's hard to breathe The skyline is disappearing Right in front of me Clear my head, these distractions They make it hard for me to see They make it hard to listen Wipe the field, entry hazards Can we defog our cloudy minds And get to something better? Wake me up when it's starting I want to see this for myself I want to know for certain Feel the sun on our old skin We need a brand new way to live We need some fresh perspective

Daydream 04:00
We venture out to the downtown Of a city that's not our own I don't know the cracks in these sidewalks You don't know why we ever left home It's after 9 o'clock The sun stays out way too late Illuminates our flaws Why can't we catch a break Play this loud and hear it We are waking up You and me We're a daydream But everything here goes away You and I We're a head-on car crash Each thought the other'd get out of the way Get out of the way You lead the way to some basement Of a bar near the Temple Square Lights are low and it smells like absinthe If I'm with you then I just don't care Drifting off on the ride back Counting the mile markers Your head rests on the windown I watch the sky grow darker Play this loud and hear it We are waking up You and me We're a daydream But everything here goes away You and I We're a head-on car crash Each thought the other'd get out of the way Get out of the way Get out of the way Get out of the way Get out of the way You and me We're a daydream But everything here goes away You and I We're a head-on car crash Each thought the other'd get out of the way You and me We're a daydream But everything here goes away You and I We're a head-on car crash Each thought the other'd get out of the way Get out of the way

Faultline 03:54
I watched it all just fall away The day the faultline opened We saw it coming all along But came to no solution We'll hang our heads with such shame When we look back On our failure to move But it's not the end We have a chance to change the tide Don't turn away or close your eyes If we could push these fears away And listen to each other We might just make it out alive How can we stand here And watch our brothers swallowed up When nobody had to die We'll hang our heads with such shame When we look back On our failure to move But it's not the end We have a chance to change the tide Don't turn away or close your eyes But it's not the end We have a chance to change the tide Don't turn away or close your eyes Don't turn away or close your eyes

In the Cold 03:18
I can understand Why you're holding on For dear life We don't want to be Left out in the cold Waiting here to die I'd spent all my life Holding to a truth Stay in line Don't stray We're so fortunate This is absolute Light of mine One way Then I heard a voice So loud so clear Like I never had before And I never would again I can understand Why you're holding on For dear life We don't want to be Left out in the cold Waiting here to die Set out on my own One foot then the next Breathing free Lighter Carried so much weight Sticking to the text Didn't need Either When you choose to live Right here right now Stop looking towards the sky Life isn't such a drag I can understand Why you're holding on For dear life We don't want to be Left out in the cold Waiting here to die I'm not here To try and change your mind We're all trying to make sense of This wild and worn out life I can understand Why you're holding on For dear life We don't want to be Left out in the cold Waiting here to die

August nights nothing to do Need to get out of this old house We grab the keys and make our move Walking down Fourth Avenue Late summer heat These filthy streets They hold a special place to you She turns to me and softly speaks I don't see any reason Why I wouldn't want to be with you Woah So predictable Woah Set me up and knock me down Woah Double negative Woah Lost my way got turned around Hanging out in darkened halls I watch the door so insecure I feel this closing in of walls I know it's not rational Trying to find some sign of life There are no first times left at all Woah So predictable Woah Set me up and knock me down Woah Double negative Woah Lost my way got turned around Don't be so negative now Don't be so negative now Woah So predictable Woah Set me up and knock me down Woah Double negative Woah Lost my way got turned around

Missing Out 04:01
Chin to my chest Nose to the glass Of a smudged and backlit screen Life is happening in real time Right in front of me Sit in this space All through the day I’m up on what’s going down Another sunset comes around I’ve got this creeping feeling I’ve been missing out on everything Looking through the photos Strangers that I used to know so well I get this creeping feeling I’ve been missing out on everything They all look so happy Why am I inclined to shrink away Can’t get myself Out of the house Keep on scrolling through the feed Look for anything interesting Vicarious me The more I see The less I feel That I’ve added a thing at all And now I’m staring at the wall I’ve got this creeping feeling I’ve been missing out on everything Looking through the photos Strangers that I used to know so well I get this creeping feeling I’ve been missing out on everything They all look so happy Why am I inclined to shrink away Are we missing out Are we missing out And are we missing out Are we missing out I’ve got this creeping feeling I’ve been missing out on everything Looking through the photos Strangers that I used to know so well I get this creeping feeling I’ve been missing out on everything They all look so happy Why am I inclined to shrink away Are we missing out Are we missing out

Overslept 04:12
I’ll rewind a thousand times But nothing’s ever changed Same old cycle buying time To blow another day All I know is I’m not going Anywhere today Watch the fan go back and forth Our feelings oscillate What’s the point of being here When all you want’s to disappear Overslept Over Can you really say for certain Things won’t always feel this way Feel this way Someone help me throw the curtain Fill the room with light of day Light of day Every night the same old dream I crash my car on I-15 And no one’s hurt but me No one’s hurt but me What’s the point of being here When all you want’s to disappear Overslept Over it Over Can you really say for certain Things won’t always feel this way Feel this way Someone help me throw the curtain Fill the room with light of day Light of day

Oh yeah It started off as things often do People that look just like you These two were so in love With collecting stuff But it all goes away Never enough They made some poor investments in The Beanie Baby fad And they lost all their life savings And got polyester rash She went ballistic Threw all his beanies on the lawn Packed her bags turned on the sprinklers Out the door and she was gone Now he works online Spending all his time Selling off Merchandise And she’s in retail Gets garbage wholesale It ends up in The landfill Fifteen years have passed She doesn’t need him back Fills her time and space Tearing plastic wrap She made some poor investments with The fidget spinner fad And she gouged both of her eyes out From spinning them too fast Now he works online Spending all his time Selling off Merchandise And she’s in retail Gets garbage wholesale It ends up in The landfill Why’s it so hard to say we’re sorry Now I’m talking at the wall again Why’s it so hard to say we’re sorry Sent a letter cause you’re not listening Now he works online Spending all his time Selling off Merchandise And she’s in retail Gets garbage wholesale It ends up in The landfill

Dropped you off on a Sunday You had to leave town And country and continent Again Thought that I’d have a fun day Or couple of weeks Watch whatever I want on TV Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon You’re off being important I’m face-down in the walk-in Smoked cigars in the yard and got sick Spent my time in the basement Write and record erase it Wish that you would come walk down the stairs Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon I don’t feel myself With you so far away This place is empty without you And every day Is the longest wait Took this whole time to figure out You were home to me Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon Won’t you get back soon

Glow in the dark Stuck to the ceiling Hung all about With no rhyme or reason Shadows I am alone I miss feeling at home The stars are out Light spilling down We’re wide awake Won’t make a sound Surroundings change Without a doubt The stars are out Same stars are out Miles away Grasping for meaning I hear your voice Familiar and calming Lights out morning come soon My eyes adjust to the room The stars are out Light spilling down We’re wide awake Won’t make a sound Surroundings change Without a doubt The stars are out Same stars are out I want to know That you’re doing okay I know you wouldn’t tell me anyway And I want you to know That we’re doing okay You know we wouldn’t tell you anyway We wouldn’t tell you anyway The stars are out Light spilling down We’re wide awake Won’t make a sound Surroundings change Without a doubt And the stars are out Same stars are out The stars are out

Driving out Gravel roads Windows down Far from home Packed a bag And fishing reels Lose our phones Be right here Sometimes you need an escape We’ve got to catch a break From all the noise and all That we don’t need Walking through Tallest reeds Find the shore Morning breeze Open sky Cast a line Not a bite We don’t mind Sometimes you need an escape We’ve got to catch a break From all the noise and all That we don’t need I see the clouds come rolling in Their shadow covers everything in sight You said it looks like rain again We’ll pack it up and find someplace to hide Bundled up Pouring rain Foggy glass Window pane Hang our clothes Up to dry Best day of My whole life

All twelve tracks from The Basement Series. Written in my first year in Utah and released two songs at a time through the following year. Each song in The Basement Series paints personal vignettes with seasick guitars, pounding drums, and synth textures that you and your mom can jam to together.
